Why should you use a VPS to host your metatrader/trading? (and what is a VPS)

A VPS is a Virtual Private Server, hosted somewhere else on the internet by a professional hosting company, it means you can have your Metatrader and trading tools up and running 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

It’s a remote version of Windows and they are quite inexpensive, anyone using robots or expert advisors on their Metatrader really should consider a VPS and here’s why.

1. 24/7 access to your trading from your PC, IOS device, Android Device. Using any device you just need some “RDP” or Remote Desktop Protocol client software, this will allow you to connect to the machine, I use it on my iPad so I can manage my trades on MT4 (yes I know you can get MT4 for the iPad) on one platform.

2. Reliability – your VPS is run by a managed hosting company, this means if your home computer is stolen, run over by a bus or anything else then you can access your VPS still, your trading set up stays online.

3. Your home machine can be used for other things apart from trading. If you are like me, you want to be able to enjoy doing other things apart from watching charts!

4. There is no danger of your children or your pets playing with your VPS or sleeping on the keyboard.

I use SimpleTrader VPS (Click here), I tested others and found they were much slower and with Metatrader 4 speed is everything. It stays up 24/7 I only reboot every other weekend just to do updates if required.

PS, I expect the markets to be pretty dead until Non-Farm-Payrolls is over tomorrow.
